Spike Ball Has Students Moving and Strategizing in Middle School PE

Students in Mr. Dossick’s PE class have recently been introduced to a new sport: spike ball. The game is played with two players on each team. The object is to hit the ball out of the air into a trampoline-like net on the floor so that the opponent cannot return the shot into the net. Teams are allowed two touches before striking the ball into the net, so teamwork is crucial. “Spike ball is a game that involves strong teamwork and strategy to be successful,” explains Mr. Dossick. “The game also involves good use of hand-eye coordination and being able to hit the ball while moving. Spike ball is a great game for middle school students, as teamwork and strategy are key parts of the middle school PE curriculum.” MORE PHOTOS
