Third Graders Build Life-size Class Sukkah

Third graders have spent the last few weeks building a life-size class sukkah, which is currently on display outside the third grade classrooms. Working in the BUILD space with teacher Doron Neuburger, students learned how to build strong and stable structures using engineering principles. The life-size sukkah is made from wood, and students had the opportunity to work with screws and power drills and created their own knots using ropes. Third graders also practiced measurements, to make sure the sukkah would allow a handful of third-grade-sized students to fit inside. Once the structure was complete, students added the final touch with many decorations they had created in the classroom.

“In the BUILD space we strive to provide the spark for our students,” says Mr. Neuburger. “I helped the students build this sukkah and they did a great job working with the screws and the ropes.”

Adds Judaic studies teacher Liron Lahav, “It’s great for the students to have a physical experience of Sukkot beyond the traditional classroom.” MORE PHOTOS
