Student-created Hall of Gratitude Inspires Community

If you have walked the halls by the middle school building this week, you may have noticed orange butcher paper lining the hallway adorned with many post-it notes with handwritten messages. This project, titled “Hall of Gratitude,” was the idea of eighth grader Simona L., Jewish Voice on the middle school Student Community Board. Inspired by her tefillah rotation—Making Meaning, led by teacher Sandee Bisson—Simona wanted to create a way for the community to share its gratitude with one another.

Says Ms. Bisson of the tefillah rotation, “The idea of this tefillah rotation is to take an in-depth look into a theme we address in prayer and really explore what the concept means and its many facets. For the first rotation, we tackled gratitude.” Adds Simona, “The idea is that students, parents, and faculty write on post-it notes their responses to prompts such as ‘I am thankful for...’ or ‘Thank you ___ for ___.’ The intent was to inspire gratitude in the Brandeis community in the spirit of Thanksgiving, and I hope I have done just that."

Members of the Brandeis community are invited to stop by the Hall of Gratitude and add their own post-it messages of gratitude.
