Theater Arts Students Set the Stage for a Spectacular Production of Oliver!
by Joanne Green, Drama Teacher and Whitney Dorman, Music Teacher
We so happy to be able to bring you the moving story and the sumptuous music of
Oliver! Based on the Dicken’s classic Victorian novel,
Oliver Twist,
Oliver! is darker than most family musicals - mixing joy and heartbreak as casually as life so often does - but it touches us more than most family musicals.
A young orphan boy named Oliver falls in with a bunch of pickpockets headed up by the magnetic and mercurial Fagin. His circumstances can be seen as grim - indeed, Dickens wrote Oliver Twist to awaken the masses to the horrific corruption and injustice of what was happening to children in London in the 1800’s - but Oliver remains resilient and strong. He is able to find true friendship with the pickpockets and watches as they celebrate the ‘small pleasures’ of their lives. And in the end, because of his own perseverance and optimism, Oliver finds his family and love.
This cast has been so hard-working and generous and fun! They jumped right in with their British accents and have continued all throughout rehearsals to find new flourishes both in their acting and singing! It’s gonna be a great show!!
