Learning at Brandeis

Student Support

At Brandeis, we focus on the whole child. Recognizing that the path to learning is not the same for everyone, we offer a variety of services to ensure that we meet individual students' needs. Our support team is made up of experienced learning specialists, licensed counselors, and an English-as-a-second-language teacher, who work collaboratively to meet the needs of our students. This team serves as an important resource to teachers and parents; they help pinpoint academic and social-emotional challenges, explore effective strategies, and support students by recommending an action plan to address issues.

Learning Specialists

Our learning specialists provide direct support to students who need specific academic strategies, accommodations, or interventions, both in and out of the classroom. In addition, learning specialists attend regular meetings with teachers and administrators to inform differentiated instruction that best meets the needs of the students. They also assist classroom teachers with academic assessments and track data on student progress, as well as act as liaisons between the school, outside tutors or specialists, and parents to better address student needs.

Counseling Program

Our counseling program is an integral part of our school with the goal of supporting each child’s emotional well-being and sense of self. Brandeis has both a lower school counselor and middle school counselor, both of whom are trained in developmental, social-emotional and behavioral needs, and interventions. The counselors work collaboratively with classroom teachers, learning specialists, parents, and children to address the needs of individual students or groups of students.

If a student needs intensive individual services such as comprehensive psycho-educational testing, counseling, or extensive one-on-one remediation, our support team makes referrals to find the best fit for a family.

English as a Second Language

We partner with families to provide English language support for students for whom English is a second language and who would benefit from additional one-on-one or small-group instruction to strengthen their English language skills.
