Mark Fritzel

General Studies, 3rd Grade
Mark Fritzel is a General Studies teacher in 3rd Grade and a coach for our cross-country team. Mark grew up primarily in Virginia where he earned a B.A. in Sociology from Mary Washington University. His post-college experience teaching English in Cambodia, leading on-the-job computer training for teens in Berkeley, and coaching Special Olympics in Oakland led him to transition from a career in non-profit fundraising to a full-time teaching role. In 2021, Mark earned his teaching credential and M.A. in Education from the University of the Pacific’s Bay Area Teacher Training Institute. Prior to joining us at Brandeis, he taught K-5th PE in Berkeley, coached six seasons of middle school sports, taught 2nd grade in Oakland, and taught wilderness survival skills at a summer camp in El Cerrito. Mark has traveled extensively in Southeast Asia and Central America, and loves cooking vegan food, playing and officiating all sports, bushcraft, hiking, and camping.
