The Parents’ Association is proud, honored, and humbled to announce Lynette Stejskal as this year’s Or Hadash award recipient. This year and the previous SIXTEEN years that Lynette has been a Brandeis parent, she has so generously demonstrated commitment, dedication, love, and support for our school and school community. As one parent shared, “Who embodies this award more than Lynette? Lynette has served Brandeis in so many important and vital ways, her contributions are incalculable.”
A midwestern transplant, after meeting her (Canadian) husband in the Czech Republic, Lynette was an elementary teacher for several years in Toronto, Canada. She and her husband, Russ Cohen, moved to San Francisco in 2001 to raise their family and be closer to the outdoors, especially great skiing. Most recently, she taught preschool for three years at The Little School. Lynette and Russ have two Brandeis alums, Sydney (class of 2015) and Joe (2019), and a current 5th grader, Ethan (2024).
Lynette began her Brandeis volunteer involvement as a room parent when Sydney was in first grade. She continued in a wide variety of volunteer roles including as a valued member of the Admissions and Outreach committee and the PA’s food events committee. In 2019 she joined Julie Lewis as PA Co-President where her leadership helped grow and strengthen the community even through the challenge of the pandemic with meaningful opportunities for connection. Lynette continues to support Brandeis as a current member of the Board of Trustees. We would be remiss if we did not share some of the words submitted with Lynette’s nomination:
“Lynette works tirelessly on ALL things Brandeis with the most incredible generosity of spirit… Her level of commitment is so dedicated, it feels devotional and it makes a meaningful impact and ripples into the community in the most beautiful way.”
“As a new kindergarten mom a few years ago, I felt the warmth and love Lynette radiates as soon as I met her.”
“In all aspects of her leadership she has modeled kindness, inclusion, generosity and perseverance.”
This year we will be celebrating Lynette at our June 1st Annual Board, Community, & PA Volunteer Celebration. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
