Algebra Making a Big Problem Into Something Small

Our sixth-graders have started exploring the appeals of algebra. More specifically, we are learning the basic components of an equation, beginning with variables and their importance in everyday life, particularly in the context of computers. Through the use of a 2 in a row dice activity, they discovered how to plug in values for variables.

They effectively learned about negative numbers, their significance, and how to carry out the fundamental operations utilizing them before the winter break. Now students are ready and excited to examine the components of algebraic equations and learn how to solve them in the upcoming month. Additionally, they will be tasked with building a board game, allowing them the chance to use their imagination and come up with a competitive game. After all, designing board games is not only entertaining but also improves brain function!
