Fifth and Sixth Graders Join Together for Outdoor Education Experience

For the first time, our fifth and sixth graders joined together to head on their outdoor education retreat. The fifth graders spent their time focused on water and forest ecology, “a nice tie-in to their science curriculum about environments and adaptations,” says fifth/sixth transition lead Isaac Jacobs-Gomes. The sixth graders spent their time focused on team building, spending participating trail hikes and bonding activities. The grades came together for meals, campfires, outdoor games, and a variety of “step-up” programs, where sixth graders became the experts to teach fifth graders everything they’ll need to know about middle school.

Says Cameron Yuen-Shore, director of special projects, “It was so great to see our fifth and sixth graders together on outdoor ed, especially leaning into the Westminster Camp mantra of 'Challenge by Choice.'” MORE PHOTOS
