Made with Code Day Excites Students about Technology and Coding

On Friday, June 1, Brandeis hosted our 4th annual Made with Code Day, which encourages students to be more curious about learning computer science. As part of our STEM program at Brandeis, all of our students are taught computer science with the aid of the programs Code.org and Scratch, and by working with robots. Made with Code Day is part of Google’s annual employee community service program GoogleServe, which aims to stir young people’s excitement about this crucial aspect of technology. About a half-dozen volunteers—among them, Brandeis parent Roman Polonsky—spent the day in the media resource center sharing their love of technology and coding with over 250 of our students, who worked on both iPads and laptops.

"We continue to be very fortunate to work with Google for our 4th annual 'Made with Code' event,” says Leo Stern, technology integration specialist. “The students were fully engaged and had a wonderful opportunity to work with successful computer scientists and engineers. It is my hope a spark was lit for many students, and that they'll be inspired by what they heard and did today."
