Kindergarteners Celebrate 100th Day of School

Wednesday marked the 100th day of the 2016–17 school year. Kindergarteners spent the week leading up to this day, and then the morning of, celebrating together. Prior to the 100th day, students collected 100 items of their choosing: cards, Swedish fish, paper clips, and legos, to name a few. On the morning of the 100th day, students participated in many activities, from drawing self-portraits of what they think they will look like at 100 years old to stringing 100 beads on a necklace to creating a piece of string artwork that has 100 nails on it (the students even calculated how many nails each student could hammer in and how many remaining nails the teachers could hammer in!).

“We prepared for the day by counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s, which connects to what we are learning in math,” says teacher Lisa Hawley. “The number 100 is a very large number, so these activities help the students conceptualize the number.” It was a wonderful day of celebrating in kindergarten!
