Third Grade Visits Local Synagogues

Our third graders are immersed in a Judaic studies unit about synagogues. They have explored the features and purposes of a synagogue and have created their own 3-D models. As part of this unit, students visited two local synagogues this week: Temple Emanu-El and Magain David Sephardic Congregation. “I wanted students to be able to compare the differences between Ashkenazic and Sephardic synagogues, and also compare the sizes of them,” explains teacher Liron Lahav. “The third graders learned a lot from their tour guides, and they were very impressed with the way the synagogues looked. This is the first time we’ve done this field trip as part of the synagogues unit, and I hope to do this again in the future.
