Fitness Stations Get Kindergarteners Climbing, Rolling, and Scooting
A few months ago kindergarteners were introduced to fitness stations in P.E. “They get to climb, throw, roll, scoot, jump, and hurdle over a variety of different obstacles,” says teacher Patrick Alcasabas (who goes by Coach Pat with his students). “It’s a great way to keep the students moving and to have them practice using their bodies in a variety of ways.” This week students climbed the rock wall, scooted around transferring bean bags to a bucket, and knocked down bowling pins; in addition, they worked in groups to design their own hopscotch course.
Adds Coach Pat, “I like giving students the opportunity to use their creativity and teamwork to create a challenge that they can get through together. My overall goal as a physical educator is to make exercise and physical activity accessible, challenging, and fun.”
