Students Sing, Dance, and Cook in Celebration of Yom HaAtzmaut

Blue and white abounded on Tuesday as we celebrated Yom HaAtzmaut—Israel’s Independence Day—with a wide variety of celebrations. The morning began with a schoolwide assembly, with 7th graders leading songs, Israel Consul General Andy David sharing about the organization Omer's Butterflies , and a video of our 8th graders celebrating Yom HaAtzmaut in Israel (click here to see video). Students then spent the day making various Israeli dishes (kindergarten through 3rd graders helped prepare Israeli salad, while 4th through 7th graders worked with L'Chaim Foods to prepare a number of dishes including falafel, pepper salad, and tabouli) and creating art projects. The celebrations concluded with a concert performed by Israeli musician Shay Rachman.

On Monday, the Brandeis chorus had the honor of performing at the Yom HaAtzmaut Community Celebration at Temple Emanu-El, which also featured a performance by the Maccabeats. "What an amazing opportunity to be a voice for Brandeis at such a prominent citywide event," said chorus teacher Kim Lostetter. "I was so proud of the way the students prepared themselves and how poised they were during the performance. They truly shined!" MORE PHOTOS
