First Graders' Proudly Present The Three Nanny Goat Opera

Last Friday, Barbara Eisenhauer’s first grade class performed in front of family, friends, and teachers The Three Nanny Goat Opera. The story of The Three Nanny Goat Opera follows three goats who want to travel to the other side of the bridge for new grass to eat and must come face-to-face with trolls who live under the bridge.

This was the culminating activity of the class’s three-month opera study: “I believe in explosing young children to all types of music,” explains Ms. Eisenhauer. “We start our opera study by listening to many different kinds of opera music and different opera singers. Opera is an excellent way to teach language because opera is literature that is alive. First graders can understand character development, setting, and problems in stories...all by actually participating in opera.”

In addition to the opera performance by our students, opera performer Sergey Khalikulor (accompanied by his mother and pianist Lilia Zheltova) treated the audience to a mini-recital of three beautiful arias. MORE PHOTOS
