Writer’s Workshop Helps Kindergarteners Become Editors, Publishers, and Public Speakers

For the past two months in writer’s workshop, kindergarteners have been writing stories about the real world. Now that their stories are complete, students spent time yesterday morning putting their books together, either as stapled booklets or as taped-together scrolls. “The kindergarteners are making it matter by doing the real work that real writers, authors, and illustrators do,” says teacher Emma Larson. Students wrote about everything from bunny rabbits to watching TV with their families to their morning routines. Ms. Larson added, “Our students are writers from day one! As their comfort with writing grows, they will move forward in becoming editors, publishers, and public speakers, as they read their work to each other.”  MORE PHOTOS
