Fourth Graders Share Important Values at Community Tefillah

This morning, fourth graders proudly led their parents and the third through fifth grade village in a tefillah and community gathering. Students wove in learning about Tu B’Shvat, sharing with all in attendance the values they have learned from this important holiday. Before each prayer, a pair of students shared their kavanah about the prayer through stories, poetry, or songs. "It is important to take care of nature because nature takes care of us," said one fourth grader. Toward the end of the tefillah, groups of students shared a Tu B'Shvat value (for example, baal tashchit meaning "do not destroy") and then provided three-to-four examples of ways they can implement the value in their daily lives. They then placed fruit artwork on the student-created tree (pictured here).

“I’m really impressed by the students’ excitement and enthusiasm to do work about a very important subject and to see them thrive doing so,” says teacher Liron Lahav. “It brings me a lot of hope that they will implement their learning outside the classroom and truly make it matter.” MORE PHOTOS
