Sixth Graders Share Their Favorite Foods in Spanish Class

As the culmination of their Spanish unit on eating and drinking, students took part in exactly that: making and sharing their favorite foods and drinks with their classmates. The students made presentations in Spanish about their favorite foods, sharing how to make each food item. “The chapter is on food, and students have learned about the verbs for eat, drink, and share, and also how to describe foods as healthy and unhealthy,” explains teacher Julieta Zuniga. “Students did a lot of background research on how to make their favorite foods and then did a great job presenting this information to the class.” Students made everything from sushi to iced coffee to caramel chocolate brownies. This chapter also delves into food from many Spanish-speaking countries and learning about the origins of those foods. “Did you know that potatoes are indigenous to Peru, not Ireland, as many think? The food was brought over to Europe in the sixteenth century. It’s exciting to teach students these fun facts.” MORE PHOTOS
