Fourth Graders Perform Lama Loveshet Ha’Zebra Pajama?
Every Friday, fourth grade Hebrew teacher Mira Peretz focuses on projects that enrich her students’ learning of the curriculum. Enrichment activities include singing songs in Hebrew, acting in Hebrew plays, and many other interactive projects. To enhance their learning and acquisition of new verbs and nouns, the fourth grade Hebrew students recently performed the play Lama Loveshet Ha’Zebra Pajama? (“Why Does the Zebra Wear Pajamas?”). Students selected the roles they wanted to play, and even performed the play twice to allow them to perform in various roles. To everyone watching the play—which includes a few songs—it was clear that the play enhanced the fourth graders’ acquisition of their new vocabulary.
“I want everybody to have the chance to be in a role they want to try,” says Ms. Peretz, “and to learn to read and memorize text in Hebew. I’ve found my students learn a lot from performing skits and plays, and having fun!”
