First Grade Visits Hidden Villa

Every year, the first grade visits Hidden Villa—an organic, educational farm in Los Altos—for a morning of hands-on learning, “allowing the students to taste a root, touch a wool sweater on the hoof, and find out what a cow gives us,” says teacher Barbara Eisenhauer. Students were treated to a farm tour, which is meant to inspire in students a sense of wonder and discovery for the natural world. While at Hidden Villa, students learned the importance of plants and met many animals, including a less-than-half-day-old newborn calf! The farm tour gives the students a chance to see what their families buy at the supermarket while it is still growing at the farm.

Adds Ms. Eisenhauer, “It was a beautiful morning and a wonderful experience for our first graders. I knew it was a hit when, after we returned to school, a student exclaimed, ‘Thank you for giving me the best field trip of my life!’”
