Creativity Elective Students Produce Musical from Start to Finish
Every year in the Creativity Elective (formerly known as ADMB: Art, Music, Drama, & Band), students in sixth grade select their area of focus and work as a class to create a musical from start to finish. Students write their own script and music, build their own sets, and perform every part in the final production. Drama section students “are working on writing a script that relates to the specific themes explored in their English literature classes,” explains drama teacher Crystal Brown. This week they spent time putting together the storyline; after brainstorming storyline ideas, Ms. Brown created a Google Form which allowed students to vote on the story elements they want to include. Ideas that garnered at least 50 percent of the votes will be incorporated into the final script.
“This is an excellent opportunity for our students to put their collaborative and creative skills to the test,” adds Ms. Brown. “Students are learning to graciously discuss and debate ideas, all while exploring the foundations of playwriting. It’s so exciting to see our students actively engaged in the creative process!” The final musical production will be performed on Thursday, May 25. Be on the lookout for more details as the date approaches.
