Successful Showing for The Brandeis School of San Francisco at Maker Faire
This past weekend, Brandeis participated in the
Bay Area Maker Faire—“part science fair, part county fair, and part something new,” as
described on their website. Maker Faire is a gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, engineers, artists, and students and we were there showing off our work from the CREATE+BUILD spaces. “We were so excited to be part of this amazing international celebration of making,” says Director of Technology and Making Nicholas Cole-Farrell. “Our table highlighted the impressive work done in CREATE+BUILD this year and featured pieces created exclusively by students: hanukkiot and menorahs; a model of a tabernacle; handbags and purses; furniture, including stools and storage boxes; and kaleidoscopes.”
In addition, the Brandeis exhibit featured an opportunity for visitors to engage with interactive shadow boxes and explore concepts of light and color, which were undertaken by our kindergarten through fifth grade students in their yearlong CREATE curriculum. And Brandeis students—and sisters—Simone S. (3rd grade) and Noa S. (kindergarten) gave a presentation on the Electronics Stage titled #RobotGirls, about how they discovered robots and the process of building their own candy machine.
Adds Mr. Cole Farrell, “By our count, we had over 700 visitors come through our booth on what was an incredibly successful first showing for The Brandeis School of San Francisco at Maker Faire!”
