Sixth Grader Pearl W. Publishes Book of Poetry

Since she was eight years old, Brandeis sixth grade student Pearl W. has been participating in the Brandeis after-school Enrichment Poetry Club, taught by Pulitzer-nominated poet and teacher Diane Frank. Now, after years of dedication to her poetry writing, Pearl is a published poet. Her collection of poems, What the Wind Taught Me, debuted on Amazon last week. The book was published by Blue Light Press and has been on the Amazon bestseller list for the past week.

“Pearl’s debut collection of poems gives young readers the opportunity to read poetry written by someone their own age,” says Ms. Frank. “Wise beyond her years, she writes poems that leap, surprise, and call you to see the work in a different way. Adds Randi Zuckerberg, best-selling author of the children’s book Dot, “Playful and full of soul, you'd never guess that the author is only eleven years old. Pearl's poems not only connect us to nature but also to one another.”

Pearl will be in the Brandeis lobby selling and signing copies of her book on Wednesday, November 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. and again on Monday, November 20, from 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Books will be available for purchase: 1 for $15 and 2 for $20. In addition, she will be reading a selection of her poems at Poetry Club on Tuesday, December 5, immediately after school in room 11. Everyone is invited to attend, and RSVPs are requested. To RSVP, please email David Worton, after-school program director.
