As the culmination of their semester-long science unit on the solar system, fifth graders presented to their peers about an object in the solar system. Objects ranged from the eight planets and Ceres (a dwarf planet), to the Earth’s moon and Titan (a moon of Saturn). “Each presentation incorporated gravity, weight, and time, which were three major themes in our space unit,” explains resident teacher Jay Woofter. Earlier in the unit, students participated in an exciting hands-on experiment to learn about gravity (

Adds Mr. Woofter, “It’s exciting to see the students research an object in depth and then teach their classmates what they’ve learned! I am impressed with their research skills, as well as their public speaking abilities.”
