Guest Speaker from ING Addresses Seventh Graders

Seventh grade social studies students enjoyed a special presentation and Q&A session with Ameena Jandali, an American Muslim speaker representing Islamic Networks Group (ING). The class has been studying Islamic civilization and the foundation and tenets of the religion. "Ms. Jandali is an impressive and affable woman in the Muslim community and in the Bay Area," says social studies teacher Allison Stine. “It was so nice to have her back on campus engaging with our students.” Ms. Jandali led the students through an overview of the religion, including data about how many Muslims there are in the world; reviewed major commonalities among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; and took questions from her seventh grade audience.

Ms. Stine commented, "Ms. Jandali called our seventh graders ‘very informed.’ She enjoyed answering all of their questions and shared many personal stories, from going on Hajj in 2005 to how her daughter has memorized the entire Quran! One seventh grader shared, "One rabbi in our community has memorized the entire Torah!" Many parallels were made between Judaism and Islam, and laughs were shared as we relished our shared experiences.”
