Eighth Graders Tour Google Headquarters

Even though the middle school elective “Advanced Topics in Mathematics” was not offered this semester, math teacher Ali Frank still wanted to provide our students with the opportunity to visit and tour the Google headquarters in Mountain View. So, she decided to take the entire eighth grade class. This visit provides students with the opportunity to see how math works in the real world. “Students love this trip, and I am so grateful to our tour guides—electrical engineer, Brandeis parent, and software engineer Paul Haahr and electrical engineer Rohan Thompson—for agreeing to take the whole group!” says Ms. Frank. The eighth graders toured the campus, heard about the history of Google, had lunch in a Google cafeteria, and even played in a campus ball pit!

Adds Ms. Frank, “One of the things that is so great about the Bay Area is all of the tech we have. I wanted students to see one of those companies and also learn that you don’t have to be a ‘tech person’ to work at a company like that. There are many opportunities.” MORE PHOTOS
