Brandeis Judaic studies and Hebrew teacher Jody Bloom was named a 2016 recipient of the Helen Diller Family Award for Excellence in Jewish Education through the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco. The award, established in 2001, recognizes and honors educators in Jewish education who have made an extraordinary impact on the youth of our community.

 

"In the seven years that Ms. Jody Bloom has taught at Brandeis, she has demonstrated her commitment to excellence in Jewish education by creating endless meaningful and memorable learning experiences for her students," Director of Judaic Studies and Hebrew Debby Arzt-Mor wrote in her nomination letter. "Jody holds herself and her students to high standards of academic and interpersonal excellence...[and she] consistently goes above and beyond her classroom responsibilities to help coordinate school-wide programming and events, actively elevating Brandeis's culture of excellence in Jewish education."

Says Ms. Bloom, "I am so honored to have won the Diller award. This is something I could never have done without the support of my colleagues and administrators, who supported my new initiatives for the Tzedek Project and allowed me to take on new curricula in the classroom."
