First Graders Bring 21st Century Flavor to Ancient Story of Passover

Blending the ancient story of Passover and the twenty-first century technology of iPads, first graders spent time this week retelling the story of Passover. “Telling the story is the most important part of the Passover holiday,” explains teacher Sandra Menachem. In collaboration with Leo Stern, technology integration specialist, first graders used the app Explain Everything to produce an animated slideshow of the story. Each student was given a portion of the story to illustrate and provide a voice-over for. These sections were then compiled and woven into one complete story. This project gave the students the opportunity to practice their typing skills, storytelling abilities, and overall creativity.

Adds Ms. Menachem, “Every generation adds a new flavor to the retelling of the story of Passover, so integrating technology seems like a great way for this generation of students to add their flavor. This project also allows the students to be part of the story, not just in listening to it be retold, but in creating it. Using modern-day technology was a fun way to bring the ancient Exodus story to life.” MORE PHOTOS
