Annual Board, Community, and Parent Association Volunteer Celebration Wraps Up 2016-17 School Year

Throughout the year, volunteers make it matter by sharing their time and resources with The Brandeis School of San Francisco in ways that support our students and make a positive impact on the school. Our community came together on Tuesday night at Foreign Cinema for the Annual Board, Community, and Parent Association Volunteer Celebration to acknowledge and celebrate the many volunteers who have helped throughout the year.

Parent Association President Luis Yaquian presented Julie Lewis with this year's Or Hadash ("New Light") Award, which is presented annually to one outstanding parent volunteer who—in big ways and small, noticed or under-the-radar—has made a positive impact on our community. Head of School Dr. Dan Glass recognized outgoing Board Chair Russell Cohen, and presented Russell with a tzedakah box custom-designed by artist (and Brandeis parent) Aimee Golant. "The tzedakah box is about commemorating the exceptional service of a board leader," explained Dr. Glass, "and so we wanted to go to the root of service, the biblical injunction tzedek tzedek tirdof, 'Justice, justice shall you pursue.' Russell then welcomed incoming Board Chair Howard Caro. Outgoing trustees Dr. Andy David, David Ehrlich, and Susan Karp were also acknowledged and thanked for their work on the board. It was a joyous occasion with much schmoozing and celebrating to be enjoyed!
