Third Graders Get Their Two Cents’ Worth at the Old Mint

Third Graders couldn't wait to get their two cents' worth in at the San Francisco Old Mint last week. As part of its history days, the Mint opened its doors to students from all over the Bay Area. Students had the chance to tour the building, make animation with employees from the Walt Disney Museum, and visit with local history groups. This field trip was the perfect tie-in to the third grade social studies curriculum, as students are learning all about the history of San Francisco.

When asked for a penny for her thoughts about their experience, teacher Janet Fung said, “The students had a lot of fun testing for magnetic surfaces within the Old Mint, whose structure includes a lot of iron.” MORE PHOTOS
