Band Students Work on Honing Complex Skill

Our youngest band students, fourth graders, are currently working on a very complex music skill. “We are playing music that has two different parts, where half of the band plays the harmony or accompaniment and the other half plays the melody,” says band director Ari Micich. This is a complex skill for students new to band, as they have to listen to the other part of the music and stay in tempo, while being secure in their own parts. Adds Mr. Micich, “Fourth grade band students have now learned seven music notes—which is great for this grade level—and are becoming much more confident with their instruments. I’m looking forward to the spring concert!” MORE PHOTOS
